Turning Data into Actionable Intelligence
Insights From the Progress Data Platform Summit 2026
AI has dominated technology conversations this year. But at the Progress Data Platform Summit 2026, the conversation moved beyond what AI can do to a more important question: How can organizations trust it enough to act on it?
Customers, partners, technology leaders and industry experts came together at the Progress Data Platform Summit 2026, hosted by Progress Software and supported by Microsoft, Carahsoft, Datavid and Techlogix.
Across keynote, customer conversations and expert sessions, one theme kept resurfacing: successful enterprise AI depends on more than increasingly capable models. It depends on trusted data, governance and business context.
Models will continue to improve. But the real differentiator may lie in how effectively organizations connect data, knowledge, rules and human expertise.
One perspective that helped frame this conversation came from featured keynote speaker and futurist Jonathan Brill, who explored what organizations need to succeed in the age of AI.
Organizations need to combine AI's ability to recognize patterns and generate insights with explicit business knowledge, rules and reasoning. Across the broader Summit conversation, that challenge could be distilled into three practical priorities: context, control and confidence.
AI needs access to trusted information, but access alone is not enough.
Organizations also need to provide the relationships, meaning and business definitions that help AI understand how their business actually operates. Knowledge models can help capture and organize this context, connecting data to the concepts, relationships and terminology that matter to the business.
Without that context, AI may have access to the right information but still struggle to interpret it correctly.
As AI becomes embedded in business processes, governance becomes increasingly important.
Organizations need visibility into what information AI can access, which policies apply and when human review is required. The question is no longer only what AI can do, but what it should be allowed to do.
Control helps ensure that speed does not come at the expense of accountability.
Ultimately, organizations need confidence in AI-generated outputs.
And that confidence comes from transparency. Teams need to understand what data informed a recommendation, which business rules were applied and whether the result is appropriate for the decision being made.
These are not technology-only challenges. They are organizational challenges that require strong data foundations and well-defined governance practices.
