About This Course
You can use SNMP-based monitoring in WhatsUp Gold to monitor a diverse range of devices. This monitoring is highly adaptable to various monitoring needs, while providing automation and scalability as your network grows.
In this course, you learn how to identify the SNMP resources that may be monitored for a device. Then, you learn how to create a variety of SNMP monitors and apply them to devices.

After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Define SNMP and MIB files.
- Assign a monitor to a device via a role or sub role.
- Assign a monitor directly to a device.
- Customize an SNMP table active monitor template for various monitoring and discovery conditions.
- Create an SNMP table active monitor template.
- Create and test a monitor using the Monitors Library.
- Create a monitor using the Import Trap Definition tool.
- Create a monitor using the SNMP MIB Walker tool.
- Import a MIB file using the SNMP MIB Manager tool.
- Understand SNMP traps.
- Identify scalar objects and tabular objects in a MIB file.
- Understand the purpose of a device's MIB file and object ID (OID) and how these are used in WhatsUp Gold.
- Understand the basic function of device discovery scans, roles and sub roles, and monitors, and how they use SNMP and MIB data.
Training Prerequisites
Students must have WhatsUp Gold installed on their network.
